Central Bank’s Interference In Private Banks

Issue 50, December 12. 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 7, 2010: people can understand the Central Bank called Nepal Rastra Bank asking the commercial banks for following the monetary polices and other adjustments for keeping the economy afloat but nobody sees any reason for setting a cap on the salaries of the managers of the private banks. The Central Bank has nothing to do with the salaries the commercial banks pay to their staffs including the managers.

Has the Central bank the rights to interfere in the businesses of the commercial banks? If yes, the parliament needs to immediately invoke such laws to deny the Central Bank any rights to indulge in interference of the commercial banks. Setting salaries and benefits of the managers of private commercial banks is not the business of the Central bank.
