Choosing A New Consensus Candidate For Prime Minister

Issue 48, November 25, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 24, 2012: following the call of the president to find out a consensus candidate for a new prime minister, the NC and CPN-UML leaders have been in confusion. Most probably they are not prepared for such a political situation although they had been making every possible effort on removing the current government.

Despite the president of NC Sushil Koirala telling the public that his party would name a candidate for prime minister within an hour, his party has not been able to name a candidate so far.

Mr. Koirala is the legitimate candidate for prime minister following the statute of his party but he could not flash his name out, as unfortunately for him, he was not an elected man. His vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel is second most eligible candidate but his party is not in a mood to name him as a candidate immediately, as senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba is claiming the office of prime minister.

The CPN-UML leaders have been putting pressure on the NC leaders to name a candidate for prime minister or give the way for the CPN-UML leaders to name a candidate for the same office.

Such a candidate for the office of prime minister would not have an easy way to the office, as s/he needed to get through the UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF before being a consensus candidate. The fifth party: CPN-Maoist leaders have already announced that they would not accept any decision made by the four parties. So, such a candidate would need to pass through the CPN-Maoist, too. This path to the office of prime minister is just like the path a soul of a dead person travels passing through several hurdles depending on her/his vices and virtues before reaching the world of dead.
