By KTM Metro Reporter
April 29, 2011: The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) yesterday has approved the candidacy of justice Khil Raj Regmi for the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Supreme Court of Nepal as the current Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha is retiring on May 5; President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav needs to appoint Regime to the CJ after the approval of PHSC, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
The Constitutional Council had unanimously approved the candidacy of Regmi for a new CJ as the successor to outgoing CJ Shrestha on April 11.
Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha has made the Supreme Court of Nepal as independent as possible taking several corrective measures and has initiated actions against the corrupt justice and judges, and has even sent one of the former ministers to jail on corruption charge. We hope that the new Chief Justice will continue the corrective measures and will not save the corrupt politicians and let them go with impunity.
