Issue 39, September 26, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 22, 2010: Sushil Koirala for the President and Prakash Man Singh for the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress have got elected with almost the same number of voters: 1,652 out of more than 3,000 electorates in the election held in Kathmandu on the 12th convention of the party. Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has polled 1317 votes while the third candidate Bhim Bahadur Tamang received only 78 votes. This is the second defeat for Mr. Deuba after failing to win the election to the Parliamentary Party leadership fought against Ram Chandra Poudel.

After the election results, Sushil Koirala is taken to the State-run Teaching Hospital at Maharajgun to treat the complaint for his chest pain. Mr. Koiral 71 has been following the footsteps of late Girija Prasad Koirala in the party business.

Koirala has been sick since past few days, and has been resting at his nephew's home at Buddhanagar, Kathmandu. He even could not celebrate his victory rally held in Kathmandu. He has just managed to cast his vote on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
