Foreign Secretary Thapa Recommended For Secretary General Of SAARC

September 27, 2013: at the meeting held yesterday, the Interim Election Council pf Ministers decided to recommend Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Arjun Bahadur Thapa to the office of the Secretary General of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC), according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

Member countries of the SAARC hold the office of the Secretary General of SAARC in turn. The term of office is of three years. Each country having the turn to hold the office of the Secretary General of SAARC needs to appoint a person to the position six month ahead of the office being vacant.

 

Currently, the official of the Maldives is holding the office of the Secretary General of SAARC. His term of office is going to expire after six months in March.
