Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister in Nepal

August 11, 2012: Deputy Foreign Minister of China Fu Ying flew in from Bhutan to Kathmandu today morning with a seven-member team to attend the Ninth Nepal-China consultative meeting starting on Monday, August 13, 2012.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Deputy Foreign Minister of China Fu made a a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister holding the portfolio of Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singhdurbar.
Deputy Foreign Minister of China Fu appreciated the 'one-China policy’ the Government of Nepal had been following, and in return, China made a pledge of additional assistance to Nepal as required by Nepal, DPM Shrestha told the reporters after the meeting.
Following the ‘one-China policy,’ Nepal had been suppressing the voices of the Tibetan exiles in Nepal and standing in the way of the Tibetans crossing the Nepal for visiting their spiritual leader Dalai Lama in India violating the fundamental human rights of Tibetan exiles in Nepal. Nepal recognizes Tibet as the integral part of the Mainland China following the ‘one-China policy,’
Deputy Foreign Minister of China Fu is in Nepal to participate in the ninth meeting of the Nepal-China Foreign Secretary level consultative mechanism that will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 after the lapse of four years.
The meeting is being held to discuss bilateral relations, trade, Chinese investment in Nepal, border security, tourism, and also to review the status of bilateral agreements reached between the two countries.
“Nepal and China have established two separate bilateral mechanisms: one secretary level and other minister level. The meeting of foreign secretary level mechanism established in 1966 is held every four years in turn in Beijing and Kathmandu,” according to myrepublica.com.
