Resignations of National Planning Commission Members
By KTM Metro Reporter
April 24, 2013: members of National Planning Commission (NPC) including Vice-chairman Deependra Bahadur Kshetry on Monday, April 22, 2013 resigned from their respective position. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had appointed them on September 8, 2011, according to the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’ news of yesterday.
Speaking at the press conference held at his office before tendering his resignation, Kshetry said, "The government did not wish to take NPC's input and no role was entrusted to it, the preparation work of the Three Year Plan also could not take desired pace as IEC Chairman Regmi denied to give time for it."
NPC has done nothing to the national planning in the real sense of planning. NPC members have simply collected activities of various departments under different ministries, and from the local governments such as district development committees and put them together for the periodic plans. No justification for keeping the NPC if the members having the status of ministers were to be simply the collectors of development activities.
