A Lawsuit Filed Against Son-in-law Of Sujata Koirala

Issue 52, December 26, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 23, 2010: district-level leader of the monarchist Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal and advocate Daindra Bahadur Thakuri has filed a lawsuit against Ruwel Choudhary: son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minster Sujata Koirala at the Supreme Court of Nepal demanding an investigation into his involvement in various illegal activities during the last several years of his stay in Nepal.

In the writ petition, Daindra Bahadur Thakuri has demanded the Supreme Court’s order for initiating investigation into the illegal activities of Choudhary, and has alleged the government giving Choudhary the political protection because of his status of the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala.

The petitioner has implicated Choudhary in the purchase of multi-billion rupees worth of armored vehicles for the Nepalese UN Peace Keeping Mission in Sudan. The UN has refused to reimburse the money to the Nepal Army stating the armored vehicles have been well below the standard required by any army causing a huge loss to the Nepal Army provident fund as the Nepal Army has used the money from the fund for purchasing the armored vehicles.

More than a week ago, Choudhary has had a brawl with former crown prince of Nepal Paras Shah at the Tiger Tops Resort in Chitwan leading to the dramatic capture of Paras Shah at the luxurious Fulbari Hotel in Pokhara and airlifting him to Chitwan for an inquiry by the police. The police have kept Paras in detention for three days for inquiry and then released him on bail of Rs 10,000.

The petitioner has made officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala, Home Minister Bhim Rawal, Nepal Army and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ramesh Chand Thakuri defendants in the case filed against Choudhary.

Meanwhile, speaking at the function of opening an office of the NC at the constituency number one in Bhaktapur, NC General Secretary Prakashman Singh has said that the government needs to bring Choudhary to justice.

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala has demanded the government to bring Paras Shah to justice for his involvement in a life-threatening brawl with her son-in-law Ruwel Choudhary at the Tiger Tops Resort in Chitwan on December 11, 2010. Talking from abroad to the Nepal Police officials, she has even asked them to immediately arrest Paras. However, DPM Koirala today has appealed to the media not to over blow the Paras shooting incident at the Tiger Tops Resort any further.
