On May 05, 2008, Nepalis celebrated the “Mother’s Day.” Married Nepalese women dressed in bright and red auspicious clothing with a load of sweets, fruits, yogurt and other food items visited their mothers, and celebrated the “Mother’s Day” in a family festive. In Nepal sons usually live with their parents. So, they do not need to visit the mothers.

In Kathmandu, Nepalese women and men whose mothers are no more in this world went to the area called ‘Mata-thirtha’, and made offerings to their deceased mothers, as they believe that on this day the souls of their mothers come this area and accept their offerings. Others went to other religious places such as Pashupati and made offerings to their mothers. Nepalis who could not make to such religious areas made offerings to their mothers at their homes.

On May 05, 2008 Stuff.co.nz reported that New Zealand's leading Mt Everest expedition organizer Adventure Tour managing director Guy Cotter said that his company paid $2000 to feed Nepalese soldiers, who are threatening to shoot climbers who disobey orders; the payments were extortion; the soldiers were treating everyone at Base Camp as potential terrorists. "It is insane. We have paid to cover the costs of the food and fuel for these guys. It is extortion to pay for your own persecutors," he said. Mr. Cotter has 11 climbers and 33 hired Sherpa guides at Base Camp in Nepal and has paid the Nepalese Government US$110,000 (NZ$140,900) for climbing permits. "When the military arrived, they made up their own rules that were different to what we agreed with the Nepalese Government. The rules change on a daily basis," he said. Nepalese soldiers moved into the Base Camp about two weeks ago to secure the Everest's closure while the Beijing Olympic torch is taken to the summit by Chinese organizers.

However, leaders of all three major political parties such as NC, CPN-UML and Madheshi People’s Rights forum (MPRF) are willing to join the so-called consensus government in their own terms only.

On May 06, 2008, Maoists’ second-in-command Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai declared that his party’s economic model would follow the ideology of Prachanda called 'Prachandapath' that favors using local resources for developing national industries; to this end, locally developed ideas and techniques would be used. Prachanda has been telling the Nepalis that his party would bring miracle in the economy as did in the politics.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2008, the YCL in-charge Kul Prasad KC told the Radio Nepal that demand for dissolving the YCL made by the NC and the CPN-UML leaders is the result of their defeated mindset. He rather asked the to-be-formed government for setting up a Youth Ministry to take up the problems of the youths. YCL In-charge KC also told the Radio Nepal that the YCL would soon work with the traffic police to curb the traffic problems in the Kathmandu Valley, and would work with the concerned agencies for smooth delivery of the state services, and for containing corruption in the State affairs.
