Pro and Against Corruption

Issue 25, June 22, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On June 18, 2008, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Matrika Yadav taking a special time at the Constituent Assembly session said that he had charged the Local Development Officer working at the Lalitpur district with corruption and taken him into custody; and said that he would face any consequences if the officer proved to be innocent.

However, some Nepali Congress members hooted at the Minister while he was speaking at the session. Nepal Students’ Union affiliated to the Nepali Congress came out against the minister.

Some civil servants warned the minister of agitating against him for taking the Local Development Officer into custody and charging him with corruption.

It is clear that the cold war has started between the pro-corruption and against corruption people. Nepalis would surely support anybody fighting against the corruption so endemic in civil servants and politicians.
