Extension Of Term of UNMIN In Nepal

September 15, 2010: The Government of Nepal and UCPN-Maoist have sent identical letters in content separately to the UN Secretary General on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 requesting the UNSG for extending the term of the UNMIN for four months from September 15 following the Four-point Agreement officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda have reached on September 12, 2010 according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 15, 2010.

"The Prime Minister has sent a letter to the UNSG to extend the UNMIN’s tenure with the current mandate and as per the agreement reached with the Maoists on Monday," PM’s press advisor Bishnu Rijal informed ‘The Rising Nepal’ Tuesday evening.

Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Narayankaji Shrestha has confirmed that his party has also sent a letter to the UNSG through the UNMIN asking for extending the term of UNMIN for four months with the current mandate. "We have expressed our commitment to the peace process in the letter and expected UN’s help in taking the process to its logical end," he said.
