Chairman Regmi Meets With Secretary General Ban

September 29, 2013: Chairman of Interim Council of Ministers Mr. Khil Raj Regmi met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Headquarters this morning. During the meeting, Chairman Regmi briefed the Secretary General on the preparations for the Constituent Assembly elections in Nepal scheduled for November 19, the progress achieved so far in the peace process and the advancement of the political process aimed at the political stability and inclusive development, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

The Secretary General appreciated the role played by Nepal in contributing troops to the UN peacekeeping operations, often in most difficult situations. He also appreciated the role played by Nepal in advancing the cause of the LDCs and its engagement in post-2015 development agenda.

 

The Secretary General emphasized the importance of bringing on board all political parties for the Constituent Assembly elections.

 

Chairman Regmi stated that 90 percent of the parties and the people were in favor of polls. Reiterating the commitment to free and fair election, the chairman said that the Government along with the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) was putting their best efforts on bringing on board the dissenting parties for the election.

 

The Secretary General was positive on providing all possible support to Nepal for holding the elections. Reference was made to the visit of the Under Secretary-General Mr. Jeffrey Feltman to Nepal in March this year for the need assessment.
