By KTM Metro Reporter

March 13, 2013: Sadhus and Sants have left Kathmandu after having the company of Lord Pashupait in Kathmandu for eight days: four days before Shivaratri and four days after it. The state-run Guthi Sansthan footed the bills for feeding them and providing them with firewood for bonfires for eight days. Then, the Guthi Sanstahn provided them with the return bus fare to their destinations.

The Guthi Sansthan provide each Sadhus with Rs 1,151, on top of that the Pashuapti Area Development Trust (PADT) provided each Sadhus with another Rs 751, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today. The high-ranking Sadhus, each received a bell, a holy water pot, a blanket, and a trident. The tradition has it that the head of state of Nepal allocates such things one day before the Shivaratri for the Sadhus, and then the Guthi Sansthan distributes those things to the high-ranking Sadhus.

Some unscrupulous people in the guise of Sadhus sold hashish to the young people at the Pashupati area during the Shivaratri festival, according to the local media news. The police had rounded up both the sellers in the guise of Sadhus and the young buyers. In fact, the PADT had warned of taking strong actions against any Sadhus selling hashish to anybody, and letting anybody other than Sadhus smoking hashish.
