Discussing Agenda For HLPM Meeting

April 21, 2010: some so-called top leaders of NC, CPN-UML and MPRF-D have gathered at the residence of KP Oli: one of the unscrupulous leaders of the CPN-UML, in Bhaktapur on April 20, 2010 to discuss the agenda for the meeting of the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) to be held on April 21, 2010. The participants were Acting President of NC Sushil Koirala and NC Parliamentary Party Leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Home Minister Bhim Rawal of CPN-UML, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of MPRF-D Bijaya Gacchhedar.

Prime Minister Madhav Nepal showed up at the residence of Oli for a while before anybody were there and then left. He refused to talk to the reporters. Chairman of CPN-UML did not attend the meeting although he is the member of the HLPM.

After the meeting, speaking to the reporters, some of the leaders have said that they have discussed in the meeting how to counter the Maoists’ activities, the peace process and the writing of a new constitution.

The CPN-UML parliamentary party has officially proposed to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly for six months, as the leaders of CPN-UML foresee that the promulgation of a new constitution will not be possible on May 28, 2010.

However, leaders of the UCPN-Maoist have said that their top priority is to topple the current government and then only they will discuss other matters.
