Government Determined To Make Shutdown Fully Ineffective

November 10, 2013: holding a news conference at his ministry yesterday, Home Minister Madhavprasad Ghimire has said that the government is capable of making the shutdown called by the CPN-Maoist from November 11, 2013 for ten days fully ineffective, as the security has been kept on alert at all levels, the district administrations have been instructed to take immediate actions against anybody attempting to disrupt the regular life in all districts, the security has been posted on all main highways to keep the traffic running smoothly, and on all lanes and courtyards of towns to keep the regular life moving on, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

The minister also has said that the government will foot the bills for damages done to the vehicles while running on the streets, and the bills for treating the injuries caused to the drivers, assistants and passengers. The government has instructed to the district administrations to bring anybody breaching the rule of law to justice.

 

The minister has said that nobody has rights to prevent the 15 million voters from voting. The government is committed to the security of voters, and to bring the cadres that attempt to violate the fundamental rights of the voters to justice. The minister has urged the voters to go to polls without fear and vote without intimidation, as the security will take immediate actions anybody trying to intimidate voters.

 

The third-generation leaders of the four-party political mechanism sat together at Kathmandu yesterday in absence of the top leaders that have been out of the Kathmandu Valley for the election campaigns, and they collectively have urged the election-opposing political parties to take back the calls of the shutdown, and have called them not to breach the fundamental rights of the people to vote, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

Representatives of Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Confederation of Nepalese industries (CNI), and Nepalese Association of Tour Operators (NATO) have met with Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya on Friday, November 9, 2013, and urged him to take back the call of the Nepal shutdown otherwise they would defy the call, as Nepal cannot tolerate the business loss caused by long-term shutdown; Chairman Vaidhya in turn said that his party had to call shutdown, as the political parties did not create an environment conducive for them to participate in the elections, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

Unidentified cadres allegedly of the CPN-Maoist threw bombs at the election rally held by the CPN-UML in Taplejung yesterday. The bombs went off injuring five people including some children. One child seriously injured taken to the district headquarters for treatment. However, the election rally went on smoothly. The security people reached the area immediately and have been searching for the cadres that have been on the run, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
