Eight Legislators Demand to Quit Government

Issue 37, September 13, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On September 5, 2009, eight legislators belonging to the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic led by Deputy Prime Minster Bijya Gacchedar have demanded to quit the government protesting the government stripping the Vice-president off the official status and removing the national flag from his residence and not paying salary to him after Vice-president Permananda Jha did not take the oath in Nepali within the deadline set by the Supreme Court of Nepal. The Supreme Court of Nepal has annulled the Vice-president’s oath in Hindi stating it goes against the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007. They have threatened Deputy Prime Minister and party leader Bijya Gacchedar to quit the government and take the issue to the streets if he does not take actions on it immediately.
