April 23, 2013: the talks the government talks-team had had with the Federal Democratic Front led by Chairman of Madeshi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal Upendra Yadav on Sunday April 21, 2013 ended with no concrete results. The front submitted 13-point demand including the resignation of the chairman of the Interim Election Council. The government team said that the government would study the 13-point demand and they would hold talks again.

The Vaidhya Maoists said that they were not going to hold the talks with the government set up following the unconstitutional means. They demanded round-table talks with all the political parties represented in the dissolved Constituent Assembly. Chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya said that his cadres would not let the Election Commission’s staffs to update the voters’ lists.

The Vaidhya-Maoists with other 32 political parties had submitted a memo to the Chief of the Election Commission on Sunday, April 21, 2013 demanding to stop the updating of the voters’ lists.

In response to the demand of the Vaidhya-Maoists, the Chief Election Commission told the leaders of the Vaidhya-Maoists that the updating of the voters’ lists had nothing to do with the politics, it had started two years ago, the Election Commission would simply continue the updating of the voters’ lists, and urged the political leaders to cooperate on this matter. Previously, the Chief Election Commissioner made it clear to the Vaidhya-Maoists that the Election Commission had not stop the updating of the voters’ lists following their demand.

Four major political parties: UPCN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF would assist the government in distributing the citizenship certificates, as these certificates were necessary to update the voter’s lists. In view of the Vaidhya-Maoists had been obstructing the updating of the voters’ lists, and the distribution of the certificates of citizenship, the cadres of the four parties would assist the government officials in doing these two business without hindrance of anybody.
