A Marriage Of NC And UDMF

Issue 33, August 14, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 9, 2011: leaders of both the Nepali Congress (NC) and United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) have said that they have forged an agreement to go along with each other. Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Front-Republican Jaya Prakash Gupta has said that the NC has recognized the UDMF as a fourth power; so, UDMF has agreed to go along with the NC for building a consensus on the national affairs, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Most of the leaders of the UDMF are former NC activists. So, they won’t have any problem of going along with the NC people but the question is how long they would go together, as the NC leaders are not for meeting the demands of the UDMF for ‘one Madhesh’ and a group entry of Madheshi people to the Nepal army.

Obviously, the NC leaders are talking to the Madheshi leaders to have their support for building a majority in the parliament to make the NC leader a prime minister not for building a consensus on the national affairs. Once the NC leaders have the support of the UDMF, they can have the support of the CPN-UML to form a new government.

NC lawmakers have been holding the House hostage demanding the resignation of the prime minister. They have already terrorized the House for 10 days and nobody knows how long they would hold the House hostage for the ransom of the resignation of the prime minister.
