Chinese Assistance At High Cost Of Dignity Of Nepal

Issue 26, June 30,2031

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 26, 2013: the government of Nepal and the Chinese government have signed off the agreement on providing funding to the three Nepalese projects. Following the agreement, China is going to provide more than Rs 4 billions for widening the Kalanki-Kotesvor Road to 10-lane, more than Rs 3 billions for the Police Training Academy, and Rs 154 millions for holding elections to a new CA, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

However, this assistance has come at the high cost of the dignity of Nepal. Acting President Permanand Jha has to jointly with the visiting State Councilor of China inaugurate the opening ceremony of the China-aided road project in Nepal. If Nepal were to maintain the dignity and protocol then one of the members of the Interim Election Council of Ministers needed to jointly with the visiting State Councilor of China open the ceremony. However, Nepalese president is made equivalent to the State Councilor of China.

The opening ceremony board has in Chinese at the top and in English at the bottom, and no Nepalese language. Is the opening ceremony for the Chinese and English speaking people or Nepalis, too? If it is for Nepalis, too then where is the Nepalese language? Most of the Nepalis don’t read English not to mention the Chinese. At some billions of rupees generously given to the Nepalese projects, the Chinese government officials want to show their arrogance in the Nepalese land.

The Nepalese elected high officials and bureaucrats have been not only poorly educated but also even protocol illiterate. Our president did not find it uncomfortable to stand at the level of the Chinese Councilor in public. Another question is how the bureaucrats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could let such things happened. Thus, the Nepalese officials have been not only physically poor but also mentally otherwise they will not sell the dignity of the country for a few billion rupees.
