Global Convention On Hindu Culture And History

Issue 52, December 23, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 20, 2012: in cooperation with India, the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) is holding a three-day global conference on Hindu culture and history some time in March 2013, according to the news posted on the www.thehindubusinessline.com today.

The PADT is for managing the property belonging to the temple of Lord Pashupati in Kathmandu. It also is responsible for managing the cash and other cashable valuable offerings made to Lord Pashupati by the devotees. Lord Pashupati’s temple in Kathmandu is one of the richest Hindu temples in South Asia.

The conference will discuss how to save the historically important temples in the dire need for renovation in the countries such as Bangladesh and Cambodia, and to promote Hindu culture and history in countries having Hindu tradition and heritage.

Probably, Nepal has the highest density of Hindu shrines in South Asia. Every old house in Kathmandu is a temple. Every courtyard has a number of shrines. Hindu deities and Buddhist deities are interchangeable. Both Hindus and Buddhists worship the same image of a deity in different names: one for Hindus and another for Buddhists. This is another form of religious harmony in Nepal.
