On February 27, 2009, Journalist and Chairman of the Reporters’ Club, and his three journalist colleagues went to jail for allegedly involved in the activities of the armed outfit Ranabir Sena that claimed the responsibility for three separate bomb explosions in Kathmandu, and in extorting money from businessmen. They would remain in custody until the police investigation into the charges is complete.

On February 27, 2009, spokesman for the government Krishna Bahadur Mahara told the reporters that the government has decided to set up three universities: Agriculture and Forestry University at Rampur in Chitwan, Mid-western University in Surkhet and Open University.
