Reinstatement Of CA A Must

Issue 43, October 21, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 17, 2012: talking to reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon return from Belgium, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said today that sooner or later major political parties would agree on reinstating the dissolved CA; although both NC and CPN-UML are positive about the idea, they have not been able to openly come out and support it; political parties will reach a deal on giving a new life to the CA before Tihar (before mid-Novemebr), writes nepalnews.com.

NC and CPN-UML leaders have been divided whether to go to polls for electing a new CA or reinstate the dissolved CA. Central member of NC Shekhar Koirala blamed senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and vice-president of NC Ram Chandra Paudel for supporting the revival of the CA in their bid for the post of the Prime Minister; Koirala accused Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda of hatching conspiracy offering the post of Prime Minister either to Deuba or Paudel, which was why both of them were favoring the CA resurrection, writes THT ONLINE.

President of NC Sushil Koirala has rejected the idea of reviving the dissolved CA, and told the NC cadres to prepare for the elections to a new CA but his party has not been cooperating with the government on holding the elections rather focusing on grabbing power from the current government, and anticipating that the Head of State would fire the prime minister and offer the office of prime minister to President Koirala on a platter.

Central member of NC Shekhar Koirala said that the Head of State could not sack the Prime Minister; so, the political parties should stop seeking the help of the President to oust the Bhattarai-led government; however, the government that could not set the date of election has no right to stay on in power. He hoped that the Bhattarai-led government would be ousted from power by mid-November, he added that the government that could not set the date of election has no right to stay on in power, writes THT ONLINE.

Addressing the European Parliament in Brussels on October 15, 2012, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said, “The breakthrough in the rehabilitation and integration of combatants should have made the drafting of the new constitution easier. However, because of the lack of flexibility on the part of some political forces, issues and aspirations pertaining to Jaanajatis, Madhesis, Dalits and people from other backward regions have become difficult to accommodate.” He has claimed that the government has completed the army integration process. “Unless major contentious issues like these are resolved, consensus on constitution writing will continue to be a problematic,” Prachanda said. Prachanda also said that the Constituent Assembly was dissolved due to the unwillingness of the traditional parliamentary parties to part with the power and privileges hitherto enjoyed by them at the expense of the legitimate aspirations and rights of the downtrodden and marginalized people, writes HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE.
