Issue 13, March 31, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 28, 2013: cadres of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya had obstructed the updating of the voters’ lists in Udayapur, Nuwakot, Kaski, Parbat and Tanahu districts. In some cases, the cadres looted the laptops, and documents; in other cases, they damaged the laptops and documents, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

At the time of updating the voters’ list at the Ward No 14 of the Triuga Municipality of the Udayapur district, a group of about 15 cadres of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya confronted with the security, and attempted to loot the laptops and documents. Some of the laptops were damaged in the confrontation. After the incident, the district police sent additional police force to run the updating of the voters’ list.

In the Chaturale village of the Nuwakot district, the Vaidhya Maoists had looted the laptops and documents from the officials of the district election commission while on duty of updating the voters’ list. At the all-party meeting, the cadres had agreed to return the equipment and documents but the district in-charge of the Vaidhya Maoist party had threatened to obstruct the updating of the voters’ list until he would get the instructions from the central committee of his party. He said that he had been doing so following the party policy.

The Vaidhya Maoists had obstructed the updating of voters’ lists in Dhikurpokhari and the Ward No 12 of the Lekhnath Municipality of the Kaski district. They stopped the officials of the district election commissions from doing their duty. They warned the officials of not taking pictures of the voters.

In Balakot of the Parbat district, a group of the Vaidhya Maoists led by the district in-charge had obstructed the officials collecting the voters’ names. They warned the officials of not doing any collection of the voters’ names.

In Dulegauda of the Tanahu district, the Vaidhya Maoists stopped the officials of the district election commission from taking the names of the voters. They took away the documents containing the names of voters.

In Kathmandu and Kirtipur, updating of the voters’ lists has been going on smoothly. Voters are very happy to get the voters’ cards. Obviously, the Vaidhya Maoists did not dare to obstruct the updating in Kathmandu.

Chairman Mohan Vaidhya of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya should know what his cadres were doing was illegal and liable to punishment. Leaders instructing the cadres to do such illegal things were also subject to punishment.
