Finland Provides Nepal With Rs. 1.85 Billions For Water Project

September 17, 2013: the Government of Finland has agreed to provide the Government of Nepal with the grant assistance of Rs. 1.85 billions for the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in the Western Nepal (RWSSP WNII). The representatives of two governments signed an agreement on the assistance at the Ministry of Finance yesterday, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

 

On behalf of their respective governments, Ambassador of Finland to Nepal Mr Asko Luukkainen and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mr Madhu Kumar Marasini signed off the agreement.

 

The objective of the project (RWSSP WN II) is to improve health, and socio-economic status, and to meet the rights of the inhabitants of the project area to clean water and sanitation.

 

Initially, the project will be implemented in eight districts such as Pyuthan, Myagdi, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahu, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi in the Mid-western and Western Nepal, and in the Gulmi district at the latter stage.

 

The project will run for five years starting in September 2013, according to the Finance Ministry. The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development will implement the project.
