Indian Congress party delegation for CA Election in Nepal

The state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of February 15, 2008 reported that on February 14, wrapping up their three-day visit to Nepal, the five-member Indian delegation of Indian Congress -I Party said that India supports the election for the Constituent Assembly (CA) in Nepal at any cost and made it clear that India has no hand in the ongoing armed violence in the Terai; rather India is ready to facilitate talks between the Government of Nepal and the armed groups in Terai the Southern region of the country.
"CA polls must be held, otherwise what may happen we can not predict, Singh suggested, adding, "It is an opportunity for the Nepalese to write their own constitution themselves, to choose political system they want.”
Singh commended CPN-Maoist for joining mainstream politics of democracy and urged them to stick to the agreements reached with other parties, including the returning of the property seized during the conflict period.
The delegation said that they would submit report on their visit to Nepal to Congress-I President Sonia Gandhi and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Monmohan Singh. The delegation comprised of Digvijaya Singh, former chief minister of Mahya Pradesh Inida, Indian National Congress leaders such as Shakeel Ahmed, Veeroppa Moily, Jitin Prasad and Dr. Ranvir Singh.
