New Trick to Save Monarchy

Issue 20, May 18, 2008

By KTM Reporter in Kathmandu

The king has attempted to play a trick on the Nepalese people to save his already fallen crown through his sycophants. On May 12, 2008, Former Prime Minister and founding member of the Nepali Congress Krishna Prasad Bhattarai said that the monarchy needed to remain in Nepal. Similarly, on the same day, President of the monarchist party called Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Kamal Thapa pleaded the political parties for keeping the monarchy as it is today until the completion of writing a new constitution. He also warned of a disastrous result of removing the king from the first sitting of the Constitution Assembly.

First, Mr. Thapa clearly ignored the results of the election for a Constitution Assembly that mandated the political parties to end the monarchy forever in the first sitting of a newly elected Constituent Assembly. Second, Mr. Thapa needed to understand the disastrous results of not ending the monarchy by the first sitting of the Constitution Assembly going against the people’s mandate. If the monarchy remained in the country, conflict and chaos would continue in the country, Nepalis would need to shed more blood, and the country might even head to disintegration. The monarchy had been only for a small group of the people around it. Now, Nepalis want inclusive administration not the monarchy that had ruled the country by the exclusive administration for two and a half centuries.

Regarding Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, he has been a political deadwood. His words do not count in the Nepalese politics, as even his party has adopted republicanism strongly.

Nobody could save the monarchy even Prachanda. If he tries to save the monarchy he will be doomed.

The suspended king can remain as Mr. Shah in the country, as every citizen of Nepal has the rights to live in the country and even open a political party using the money he has stolen from the national treasury, and his brother and father had stole and saved for him to use. However, he might face a catastrophic result if he would create chaos in the country again.
