Making Chitwan Area A Federal Capital Of Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
April 25, 2012: according to the news posted on the ‘Nagarik Daily’ of today, the UCPN-Maoist has decided to develop the Chitwan area as the capital of the federal Nepal. To this end, the UCPN-Maoist leaders have made a decision at the meeting of the standing committee of the UCPN-Maoist held at the party office in Kathmandu yesterday. The federal capital will not be a part of any province. The UCPN-Maoist is preparing to table this proposal for declaring the area between Daunne in the west to Makwanpur in the east as the federal capital city of Nepal at the meeting of the political parties that have been involved in making decision on everything about a new constitution.
Leaders of the UCPN-Maoist believe that Kathmandu has been over-populated and congested due to the limited areas the valley has; the areas available in the valley will not be sufficient to develop a federal capital. In addition, the Kathmandu Valley is vulnerable to the blockade, as it is easier to close the highways joining the Kathmandu Valley with the terai areas. So, the Chitwan area is the most suitable one for developing a federal capital of Nepal, the UCPN-Maoist leaders opined.
Every time, the leaders come out of the meeting of the major political parties that have been engaged in building a consensus on the contested issues say that they are about to reach an agreement on the matters. However, they have been working so many days and even nights they have not been able to build a consensus on any issues.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Gacchedar, leaders of the major political parties have reached a understanding on 60 constituencies for the Upper House and 300 constituencies for the lower house but both are tentative and any party might come up with a new idea about these matters.
