Power Crisis In Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
December 16, 2011: the power minister has said that he is planning to build thermal plants at different areas across Nepal for producing 300 MW, and import another 100 MW from India to mitigate the power crisis. Nepal has been plagued with the severe power shortage thanks to the political party such as CPN-UML that had once vehemently opposed to build thermal power plants to mitigate the power shortage.
The outage might reach nineteen hours a day if the government does not do something drastic to generate more power to meet the demand according to the government estimate. Such outage will occur during the driest period of March and April.
Currently, Nepalis have the power break three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. Most of the people that could afford have invertors to have some lights going on but the poor has to remain in darkness. Most of the stores have either power generator or invertors. Petty stores use lamps during the outage.
