NC Discusses State-Restructuring Issue

Issue 37, September 11, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 7, 2011: the Central Committee members of Nepali Congress (NC) have discussed the issues concerning the state restructuring at their meeting held in Kathmandu yesterday. Most of them have agreed on setting up an expert committee on state restructuring rather than insisting on setting up a commission on this matter following the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.

NC leaders have been insisting on forming a commission on state restructuring following the provision made in the interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 for it. However, Madheshi leaders have been deadly against it stating NC leaders have been intriguing against the federalism under the cover of setting up a commission on state restructuring. Madheshi leaders have agreed on a technical committee on this matter.

UCPN-Maoist leaders have been saying that the need for setting up a commission on state restructuring has lost its relevancy, as most of the matters concerning the state restructuring have settled only technical matters remained to be resolved; so it would be better to set up a technical committee on this matter.
