October 19, 2010: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has invited Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, President of NC Sushil Koirala, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal and officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal to his official residence Shital Niwas today to break the current political deadlock. However, the ceremonial president cannot do much except for requesting them for building a consensus on forming a new government.
The President has asked them to sort out their problems of reaching common understanding following the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2006. However, every person having the habit of reading daily news knows that the current political deadlock is the deeds of the President that has abused the Interim Constitution for saving the job of the then Chief of Army Staff.
The term of UNMIN has been less than 100 days for completing the peace process and the deadline for completing the writing of a new constitution is May 2011 that has been approaching very fast for the slow-going politicians in Nepal some of them even unwilling to write a new constitution.
At the meeting with the president, both the Chairman of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML have requested the president of the NC for pulling out the NC candidate for a new Prime Minister to pave the way for building a consensus on forming a new government; however, the President of the NC has refused to do so leading to continue the political deadlock.
The UCPN-Maoist leaders have said that the officiating government has no authority to present the full-fledged budget for the fiscal year 2011 (2068) but the political leaders in power have said that they are determined to present the full-fledged budget to the parliament on October 26, 2010.
