Forbidding Opening of New Banks.

Issue 32, August 9, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On August 4, 2009, the private newspaper ‘Kantipur’ has reported that the Central Bank called ‘Nepal Rastriya Bank’ has forbidden Nepalis the opening of new commercial banks. If it is true the allegedly corrupt governor but recently cleared of the charge by the Supreme Court of Nepal Bijayanath Bhattarai has violated two laws: one the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 another the free market law.

The Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 has guaranteed the rights of Nepalis to engage in any businesses of their choice. So, forbidding Nepalis to engage in the business of banking to the Nepalis, Governor Bijayanath Bhattarai has first violated the Interim Constitution of Nepal; second, he has violated the free market law.

So, anybody might take Governor Bijayanath Bhattarai to the Supreme Court of Nepal for violating the Interim Constitution of Nepal and consequently violating the human rights of Nepalis to engage in the businesses of their choice guaranteed by the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.
