Chief of Army Staff Katuwal Goes on Leave

On August 8, 2009, the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ has reported that Chief of Army Staff Rukmangad Katuwal has gone on the one-month customary home-leave before retirement. He is retiring on September 10, 2009.

Second-in-command Chhatraman Singh Gurung will take over the command of the Nepal Army. It is the first time in the history of the Nepal Army that any Nepali other than the Ranas, Thapas and other Chhetries such as Katuwal very close to the palace people has been the commander of the Nepal Army.
