A Woman Living In Cave In Nepal In 21st Century

Issue 44, October 28, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 23, 2012: believe it or not a woman has been living in a cave for 64 years, and she continues to live in it according to the ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’ of October 21, 2012. The local government has been providing her with the old-age allowance in the cave located in the Patle VDC-8 of the Okhaldhunga district in Nepal.

“I had stepped into the cave as a bride when I was 13 and has been living here since then,” Kalimaya said. “Though I have a small plot of land, I have been living here for long as I could not build a house of my own,” she added according to ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.

According to the local people, she had a small plot of land but lost it to a local money lender for the money she had borrowed to raise her two sons and four daughters that left her for greener pastures.

However, much to her relief, Patle VDC has been providing her with the old age pension in the cave itself according to the ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.
