July 7, 2013: Speaking at the event to mark the 19th International Cooperatives Day in Kathmandu yesterday, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has asked everybody for his/her help in holding the elections to the next Constituent Assembly (CA) in a free and fearless environment as scheduled, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’ Chairman Regmi also said that opposing the elections would not do justice to anyone, so, political parties need to hold talks with the dissident parties.
Top leaders of the four major political parties said that they were ready to call an all-party roundtable meeting, make changes in the High-Level Political Committee (HLPC), and amend the 11-point agreement and 25-point Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance if the CPN-Maoist were really committed to take part in the upcoming elections to a next CA, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
After the meeting, Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the HLPC could be reconstructed based on the decision of the all-party conference instead of bringing or including other parties' representatives in it. He also said that some points of the 11-point agreement and 25-point ordinance issued by the President to remove the constitutional hurdles could be amended by keeping the major points intact if the CPN-Maoist were to join in the talks to ensure its participation in the elections to be held on November 19, 2013.
Vice-chairman Shrestha also said that talks could be held through any other process and procedures if the CPN-Maoist leaders were reluctant to hold formal talks with the HLPC. He said that the meeting decided to remain open, liberal and flexible to create an environment conducive to the elections.
