Maoists Confront the Police with seized arms

March 25: The Nepalese independent press reported that the Maoists seized two trucks loaded with arms in southern town called Butwal on Monday, March 24, and confronted the police with the seized trucks On Tuesday, March 25, 2008. The Maoists alleged that the security force brought these arms to foil the Constituent Assembly election in Nepal.
The Maoists called a general strike in three southern districts such as Nawalparasi, Rupandehi and Kapilvastu to protest the import of arms in the face of the election. They staged a rally in Kathmandu and some other places to protest the import of the arms.
Initially, the police said that the trucks were loaded with the election materials; later on, the police confessed that the trucks were loaded with arms for the Armed Police Force.
The Maoists’ Chairman Prachanda said that probably the import of the arms is one of the conspiracies to foil the upcoming CA election; however, he was quick to add that such things would not disrupt the election
