Hostility Among MPRF Leaders

Issue 24, June 14, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On June 10, 2009, the Central Committee Meeting of the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) has been held in Birgunj. Chairman Upendra Yadav has nominated five new central committee members and also has filled up the five positions of the central committee members vacated by the five central committee members fired by the Chairman. Deputy Chairman Jayaprakash Gupta has been conspicuously absent in the meeting.

While the meeting has been holding, a group of supporters including women members of parliament of the Gacchedar group of MPRF has held a rally at the meeting venue and shouted slogans against Chairman Upendra Yadav. Then, the two groups facing each other have gone on the rampage injuring several cadres and even the members of the parliament.

The Central committee meeting also has decided to hold an election for the parliamentary leader of the MPRF after Gacchedar has been fired from the position.

In the meantime, in Kathmandu at the Hotel Himalaya, the Gacchedar group of the MPRF has held a central Committee meeting and has decided to reorganize and revamp the MPRF.
