Elections To A New CA, And Political Parties

Issue 23, June 9, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 6, 2013: speaking at an interaction event held in Bhaktapur yesterday, Chairman of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Narayanman Bijukchhe said if the one-percent threshold were to apply for the proportional representation, then elections to a next CA would not be possible, as a limited number of political parties would have representation in the CA that also would lose their representation in the next elections, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal Upendra Yadav met with Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, and submitted his demands for the resignation of Regmi, scrapping of the four-party mechanism, and an all-party government to hold elections, according to nepalnews.com.

Chairman Yadav gave Chairman Regmi one-week time to meet his demands. If the demands were not met within a week then Chairman Yadav threatened Chairman Regmi to take the issues to streets. However, if Chairman Yadav were to be sensible to the rule of law then he should know that Chairman Regmi could not quit his previous job, as his current job is tied to the previous job following the 25-point Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance issued by the president on March 14, 2013.

Speaking to the representatives of the Reporters’ Club at his residence yesterday, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Surya Bahadur Thapa said that political leaders demanding the immediate announcement of the election date have been clearly opposing the elections. He also said that the elections should be held following the Election Act without amendments, as amending the Election Act would mean adding problems.
