Race For Prime Ministerial Election Again

Issue 06, February 06, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 2, 2011: Nepalis have a horse race festival once a year on the no-moon day of Chaitra (this tear on April 3) but the prime ministerial race has been 16 times in the past, and it is again going to start on February 3, 2011. This time we have four horses in the field.

The largest one is of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, the second largest one is of NC Ram Chandra Poudel, the third one is Jhalanath Khanal of CPN-UML, and finally a new and smart and energetic Bijaya Gacchedar of UDMF. Ram Chandra has almost missed the horse race this time as his rival Sher Bahadur Deuba has tried to snatch the ticket from him for taking part in the horse race. Ram Chandra is the most experienced horse among the four as he has run for 16 times in the past. Prachanda is the second most experienced horse as he has run for eight times. Poor Jhalanaht has not even a chance to run so far. So, he might be limping in the race. Gacchedar is the new entry that might leap rather than run.

In the first round of the horse race, Prachanda will probably garner 235 votes at the maximum, Ram Chandra and Jhalanath Khanal will about 100 votes each, and finally the new horse Bijaya Gacchedar will be running at 30 votes at the maximum if the race is fair and free.

Again if the horse-trading goes on in the parliament before the race actually starts then nobody could predict what will be the results of the race. Anyone of the four horses can win the game if he or his party has sufficient money stashed for buying the votes of the other horses in the parliament.

Nobody knows how much money, Prachanda and his party have but his coworker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has once requested the Chinese leader for certain amount to buy the horses at that time in the parliament if the Nepalese media are to be believed.

Ram Chandra Poudel and his party must have sufficient money to buy the half of the total horses the Nepalese parliament has but all the money is lying in his tummy so his tummy has been swollen. So, he has to live at the mercy of his party boss Sushil Koirala but Koirala is not going to spend on buying votes for his horse, as the most corrupt politicians sitting on the Central Working Committee have earned the money. One of them is supposed to be in jail for corruption case after the Court has sentenced him for a certain jail term if Nepal has the rule of law.

Poor Jhalanath Khanal has taken the slap from his own cadres recently. So, he might not have money at all to buy any horse. His rivals such as Madhav Nepal has stolen a large amount of money from the people’s pockets and the state treasury but he is not going to use that hard-earned money for buying horses for Khanal. His co-workers Madhav Nepal and KP Oli will not allow him to win the race.

Poor Gacchedar has also amassed a large amount of money from stealing the state budget and from the foreign donations he has received for running against the Maoists. However, the amount might be short of the amount required for buying almost 300 horses, as he has no support of other parliamentarians at all. Even his colleagues have recently left him for greener pastures. So, UDMF might not be a sufficiently large enough pasture for even grazing all the Madheshi hybrid horses.
