Chief of Army Staff of India General Vijay Kumar Singh In Nepal

December 20, 2010: Chief of Army Staff of India General Vijay Kumar Singh has arrived in Kathmandu by a special flight from New Delhi on a three-day official visit today at the invitation of the Chief of Nepal Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung. CoAF of India Singh has discussed security issues with the high officials of the Nepal Army today.

On Tuesday, December 21, 2010, CoAF of India Singh visits the Mountain Warfare Training Center set up at Jomsom in the Mustang district adjoining the Tibetan border, nearly 40 years ago after the Nepal Army finishing off the rebellion of the Tibetan warriors called Khampa according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 20, 2010. Currently, the center trains the Indian Army and the armies of other countries such as the UK, France, Italy and Sri Lanka in the high altitude warfare.

On the way back from Jomsom, CoAF of India Singh visits the main center set up by the Indian Army in Pokhara for the recruitment of Nepalis for the Indian Army Brigade called Gorkha and also the site of the regional pension camp set up by the Indian Army for the Nepalis retired from the Indian Brigade Gorkha. CoAF Singh interacts with the Nepalis retired from the Indian Army including the disabled during warfare.

President Ram Baran Yadav will confer the honorary title of general of the Nepal Army on CoAF Singh at a ceremony to be held at the official residence of the president, and an insignia, a sword and a citation, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 20, 2010 writes.
