Students Protesting Against Karki’s Appointment

Issue 19, May 12, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 7, 2013: students unions affiliated to different political parties have decided to shut down the Kathmandu Valley on May 9, 2013 protesting against the recommendation made by the Constitutional Council to the president for appointing Lokman Singh Karki to the chief of the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA), according to the ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.

The political bosses of the student unions have suggested the Constitutional Council to make the recommendation for appointing Karki to the chief of CIAA. Then what is this drama of the students going against the appointment of Karki to the chief of CIAA?

Students should know that shutting down of others’ business is not their business and it goes against the law and it also is the criminal activity that the political parties have made it the rule of law. All the political parties had been prompt to indulging in the criminal activities of shutting down others’ businesses in the past and even currently.

Nepal loses at least Rs 2.5 billion of business in a one-day shutdown of the country. Millions of Nepalis have to stay home when anybody calls a shutdown. Parents and siblings of those students enforcing a shutdown also suffer from the loss of business. So, students should be careful to indulge in such illegal activity of shutting down the Kathmandu Valley.

If students were really to be good students they should engage in their studies rather than following their political bosses. Only a few students get to the politics at the cost of hundred of thousands of students that want to have smooth study rather than going to enforce the shutdown of traffic and business of other people.

Today also, students have stopped the vehicular traffic at different campus for two hours. Students lost two hours of their precious student life. It will take some time to compensate such loss. Commuters have suffered from the traffic congestion, and traffic diversion. What the students gained from such traffic jam nothing but the curses of the commuters.

Soon, Nepalis will rise against anybody calling a shutdown. Students should know that the locals of Surunga Market in the Eastern Nepal had chased away the enforcers of the shutdown when Chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya called the shutdown of Nepal in the recent past. Soon, entire population of Nepal will rise up and chase away anybody calling shutdown. It is applicable to Limbuwan, Khubuwan and any sorts of wan.
