March 1, 2013: the Supreme Court of Nepal has rejected to register a contempt of court case against the Chief Justice Advocate Sunil Ranjan Singh wanted to file at the Supreme Court of Nepal yesterday. Joint-registrar Nahakul Subedi has rejected the case stating the Chief Justice has the positive attitude to taking over the office of prime minister; so, the advocate has interpreted the attitude of the chief justice differently.
Advocate Singh charged the Chief Justice with the contempt of court stating that the Chief Justice has accepted the position of prime minister while he is still holding the office of the Chief Justice thus causing the contempt of the court. This is the first time a contempt of court charge is brought against the Chief justice.
A statement issued by the Supreme Court of Nepal on February 25, 2013 has stated that the Chief Justice although has no ambition to hold the office of the Chief Executive has positive view of holding the office of the prime minister to break the political and constitutional deadlock.
