March 7, 2011: Nepalis have finally taken the body of Krishna Prasad Bhattarai: one of the founding fathers of Nepali Congress Party to Aryagahat next to the temple to Lord Pashupati in Kathmandu and cremated him with the full state honor on Sunday, March 06. The Nepal Army has presented 13-cannon salutes to Bhattarai at the time of his nephew setting fire on the funeral pyre at Aryaghat.

The funeral procession has started from the Dasharath Stadium at the Kathmandu city center and then has passed through the route: Bir hospital-Ratnapark-Bagbazar-Dillibazar-Maitidevi-Baneswore-Gaushala and finally reached Aryaghat. Thousands of people have followed the casket of Bhattarai. Thousands others standing on the sidewalks and looking through the windows of the houses standing on both sides of the routes have offered flowers to the dead body of Bhattarai.

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Vice President Paramananda Jha have paid a tribute to Bhattarai at Badegaun in Lalitpur offering flowers to the dead body of Bhattarai.

Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal covered the body of Bhattarai with a national flag.

Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, President of NC Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and many other political leaders, supporters, and people in general have paid a tribute to late Bhattarai at the stadium. His body was moved to the stadium from his home at Badegaun early morning for the public to pay a tribute.

Indian ruling and opposition leaders have paid a tribute to late Bhattarai. The US Embassy in Kathmandu in a condolence message said the death of Bhattarai is a great loss to the country and democrats elsewhere.

Late Girija Prasad Koirala had been instrumental to defeat K P Bhattarai in the general elections held in 1990 and then to force him out of power in 2000.

Bhattarai had remained unmarried throughout his life but a lady had accompanied him all the time. He had set the record of entering the prime ministerial resident with a steel trunk and coming back with the same trunk. He used to tell jokes making people laugh.
