On April 14, 2009, Nepalis celebrated the New Year of 2066 following the Vikram Calendar. On this occasion, Nepalis in Bhaktapur, Thimi, Bode and villages around these towns celebrated New Year with various religious activities.
In Bhaktapur they pulled up a victory pole with two flags of 35 and 34 feet and one-foot wide each on the eve of the New Year. The pole was broken into three pieces when pullers mistakenly pulled it to the wrong side causing injury to some revelers. Then, the concerned cultural authorities replaced the broken pole with a new pole. On the New Year evening they pulled down the pole.
