Former Crown Prince Paras Spent A Goodnight Under Police Custody

Issue 49, December 2, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 27, 2012: the Thai police arrested the Nepalese former crown prince Paras Shah on a charge of possessing 3.4 gm marijuana on October 23, 2012, and put him under the police custody before an unknown person paid 10,000 baths for releasing him on bail. Mr. Shah spent a goodnight in the Phuket police station.

Mr. Shah denied but his girl friend confessed to the possession of the marijuana. The hotel manager called on the police when Mr. Shah and his girlfriend were squabbling. The police came in to settle their quarrel only to find out the marijuana in their possession.

A senior police officer in Phuket confirmed that the police had arrested Paras and an unidentified woman at a hotel, according to ‘The Bangkok Post’: English language Thai newspaper.

The arrest of Paras Shah was informed to the Nepalese embassy in Bangkok on Oct 27, 2012. Then, the Nepalese embassy in turn informed the Nepalese Foreign Ministry in Kathmandu but none of these agencies disclosed this unfortunate news to the media.

Every two weeks, Paras needed to report to the police that had seized his passport. Paras might languish in the Thai jail if convicted. However, the Thai police and the Thai court have had great reverence for the royals. So, Paras might get light sentence for his felony.
