Issue 27, July 1, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 25, 2012: speaking at an interaction with the employees of District Development Committee of the Parbat district on Sunday morning, Acting Chief Commissioner of Election Commission Neelkantha Upreti has said that an election to a Constituent Assembly could be held on November 22 if the political parties build a consensus on breaking the current political stalemate and also agree on election programs, if not then before April 13, 2013, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.

The Acting Election Commissioner also has informed that the EC has already making necessary preparations for holding CA elections, the Interim Constitution of Nepal has not mentioned about the CA re-elections; however, the elections could be held on November 22 if laws were formulated. The Election Commission has informed the government about the provisions to be made for the election process and the EC was waiting for the government’s decision, the Acting Election Commissioner said.

According to the Acting Election Commissioner, about Rs. eight billion is required to hold the CA elections.

Concerning the provision not made in the Interim Constitution for the election to a new CA, the Acting Election Commissioner needs not to worry about it, as the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal on holding the election becomes the part of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.
