Issue 33, August 18, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 12, 2013: speaking at the interaction event held in Kathmandu yesterday by the Federal Socialist Party Nepal (FSP-N), one speaker after another belonging to the election-opposing political parties such as CPN-Maoist, Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal (MPRF-Nepal), and Federal Socialist Party-Nepal (FSP-Nepal) said that elections are the only remedy to the current political crisis; however, holding elections in the current state of affairs would not do any better, according to the news on ‘gorkhaptraonline.com.

Speaking at the event, chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya, chairman of FSP-Nepal Ashok Kumar Rai and leader MPRF-Nepal Bharat Bimal Yadav said that although holding the CA elections was the best option to break the current political deadlock, the elections in the current state of affairs would do more harm than good to the country.

Chairman Vaidhya said that holding the elections without dissolving the four-party political mechanism and without holding a round table conference of all political parties would mean nothing.

Chairman Vaidhya made it clear that his party would participate in the elections only held by the all-party government formed by a round table conference.

Chairman of FSP-Nepal Rai said that elections would be impossible until Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi quit the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal, and the four-party political mechanism was dissolved.

Leader MPRF-Nepal Yadav charged President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav with legitimizing the four-party political mechanism resulting into the current political crisis. Leaders Yadav also said that the elections held without meeting the demands of the election-opposing parties would not break the current political deadlock.

At the meeting held at the residence of CPN-UML leader Krishna Lal Maharjan at Bal Kumari in Lalitpur yesterday, NC and CPN-UML leaders agreed on a common stand on meeting the demands of the election-opposing political but they are not compromising on the election date; they said that some of the demands put forward b the election-opposing political parties were against holding elections, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.

At a meeting held at Nayabanesvor today, the four-party political mechanism has decided to serve an ultimatum of two days to the election-opposing 33-party alliance to reach an understanding and participate in the elections; the four parties are willing to be flexible for meeting the demands of the opposition even making an amendment to the 11-point agreement and 25-point ordinance and increasing the proportional representation seats in the Constituent Assembly, according to the nepalnews.com.

If the opposition were adamant that their demand for dissolution of the current election government and for canceling the upcoming CA election date remained then the four-party political mechanism would not hold talks with the election-opposing parties, neaplnews.com quoted leader of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kazi Shrestha as saying.
