Oath-taking Ceremony for Newly Appointed Ministers

On September 2, 2009, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has administered the oath of office to nine ministers of various statuses he has appointed on Monday, August 31, 2009. Among the nine ministers, one minister, and four ministers of state and one assistant minister altogether six are of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic, one minister and another minister of state altogether two are of Nepal Sadbhavana Party and one minister of state is of the Rastriya Janashakti Party. One of the ministers has taken the oath in Hindi keeping the Hindi group alive in the cabinet. The expanded cabinet is of 42 members: the second largest cabinet since the Deuba government made a largest coalition cabinet in the past.
Members of the Nepali Congress have boycotted the oath-taking ceremony indicating their displeasure at the cabinet expansion. Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party has not sent its members to join in the expanded cabinet also not satisfied with the offer of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal.
Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic and Deputy Prime Minister Bijya Gacchedar has claimed that after the introduction of the new ministers in the cabinet, the government has been stronger. It might be true for him as he got six ministers in the newly expanded cabinet.
