Taking Actions Against CoAS
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On Monday, April 27, 2009, speaking at the function of inaugurating ten kilometer long section of the BP Highway still under construction with the grant assistance of the Government of Japan, Prime Minister Prachanda said that the Government would take decisive actions against the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) within two days.
The Nepali Congress members of parliament have continued to obstruct the parliamentary session on April 27, too, demanding not to take any actions against the CoAS. They have been determined to fight against the government’s decision on taking actions against the CoAS. Thus, some parliamentarians losing the popular support and not being able to garner people’s support for their cause have made the parliament a battleground.
The Maoist leaders have been urging the government to take strong actions against the CoAS at any cost no matter what its consequences will be.
The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) leaders have been for taking actions against the CoAS with the consensus politics.
Some civil society activists have said that the government needs to take actions against the CoAS that has failed in honoring the order of the government and that has hit hard on the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. They also have said that they have drawn the attention of the President to the fact that some leaders have attempted to make the ceremonial presidential institution as the source of executive power.
