Registering Underground Water Users In Kathmandu

Issue 50, December 18, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Management Board has again published a notice in the stat-run newspaper ‘gorkhapatra’ today to the underground water users threatening them to fine Rs 50,000 if they don’t registered their wells or borings with it. This has been the repeated intimidation to the water users and water sellers.

The government of Dr. Baburam Bhattarai needs to immediately revoke the authority given to this board requiring the hundreds of thousands of underground water users in Kathmandu to register their underground water sources. This is another tool to make money for the corrupt officials of the Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Management Board. So, Prime minister Dr. Bhattarai needs to revoke this authority of requiring the underground water users to register with this corrupt institution called Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Management Board if the prime minister has really a zero tolerance for corruption.

This Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Management Board has been providing water to the residents of Kathmandu with water once a week. This is one of the corruptions the Board has been practicing. Now, this institution wants to make the water users necessary to register their wells making another administrative hassle to the consumers. We have been using wells for thousand of years we did not need to register the wells with any institution. Why we need to register the wells now. If the Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Management Board wants to keep the record of the wells and borings they should send their officials to collect data.
