NC Should Pull Out Poudel From Prime Ministerial Candidate

Issue 45, November 01, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 01, 2010: Speaking at a press conference held by Reporters´ Club Nepal in Kathmandu on October 31, 2010, Officiating Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala has said that NC should pull out Ram Chandra Poudel from running for the office of Prime Minister if it does help to reach an agreement with the UCPN-Maoist; however, she does not believe in working on the consensus politics even after the withdrawal of the prime ministerial candidate from the election race, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of November 1, 2010 and myrepublica.com of October 31, 2010 write.

Concerning her personal political career, she has said that she had back out from running for the office of her party’s general secretary in the 12th general convention of the party after leaders such as Sushil Koirala, Ram Chandra Poudel and Prakash Man Singh promised her the office of Vice-president to be nominated by the President. This statement has come in the wake of rumor of President Sushil Koirala is appointing Ram Chandra Poudel to the Vice-president of her party.

Recently, President Sushil Koirala has nominated his rival Sher Bahadur Deuba to the member of the Central Working Committee of the party. He needs to nominate another 20 CWC members. Hopefully, Mr. Koirala will nominate Sujata Koirala to the Vice-president of the party but they have been bitter enemies in the past. Mr. Koirala has once said that he will quit the position of the then-Acting President of the party he has been holding if Sujata Koirala is made Minister in the government headed by Madhav Nepal but father Koirala not only made daughter Koirala a minister but even elevated to the Deputy Prime Minister in the tough bargain with Madhav Nepal but Sushil Koirala has remained in the position of Acting President until he is elected to the full fledged President of his party.

At the same time, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has met with President of NC Sushil Koirala and has urged him to pull out Ram Chandra Poudel from the Prime Ministerial race for building a consensus on a new government but Mr. Koirala has stuck to his stance on a package deal for breaking the current political deadlock to the frustration of Prachanda.
